TheNordic CoagulationMeetingwill, for the first
time ever, take place inVisbyon the islandofGot-
landduring September 10-12, 2014
The Nordic coagulationmeetings are an important
and long-standingpart of theNordic cooperation in
themedical field. The 47
th
meetingwill be held in a
unique location, themedieval town of Visby on the
islandofGotland, in themiddle of theBaltic Sea. In
mid-September,Gotlandusuallyenjoysnice summer
weather, thanks to theBaltic Sea.
This yearly meeting is by tradition organized
by coagulation specialists and laboratories in one
town and moving around in the Nordic countries,
but this time the organizers are from four hospitals;
Linköping, Halmstad, Göteborg and Malmö. This
yearwe inviteparticipants not only from theNordic
countries but from all countries around the Baltic
Sea, to enhance the possibilities to exchange know-
ledge and to find new friends and connections. We
alsohope that some of the participantswill take the
opportunity toexplore thebeautiful islandofGotland
in conjunction to themeeting, andwe offer accom-
panyingpersons toparticipate in the social program
for a very attractive price.
Theprogram isnowmainly set, and registration is
open; seewww.nordcoag2014.com
The symposiacoversmanyareas, forexample“New
oral anticoagulants–whenand towhom?”, “Cardio-
vascular aspects on thrombosis”, haemophilia, von
Willebranddisease, platelets in thrombosis andhae-
mostasis, and acquired coagulation disorders. Most
symposia will cover clinical and laboratory aspects
andnews from research.Therearemanywell-known
speakers invited; for example from Canada David
Lillicrap and Sam Schulman, and from SwedenErik
Berntorp,BjörnDahlbäck,RolfLjung,LarsWallentin
andmanymore.High-quality satellite symposiawith
internationally renowned speakersareheld integrated
with the meeting and will cover many interesting
subjects such as point-of-care analysis, coagulation
analysis, bleedingdisorders and treatment incritical
bleeding. There will also be an exhibition, a poster
session andposter prizes.
Visbycanbeeasily reachedbyair fromStockholm-
Arlanda, fromwhich there are many daily connec-
tionswith international airlines.Therearealsonume-
rous flightsby several companiesall year round from
Stockholm-Bromma,Göteborg-Säveand in southern
Sweden fromÄngelholm. You cangoby car; there is
no bridge but daily ferry services fromNynäshamn,
close to Stockholm, and from Oskarshamn on the
east-coast of Sweden.
