Klinisk Biokemi i Norden
To Lessen Serial Cardiovascular Readmissions and
Death (BATTLE-SCARRED) trial (25).
In summary it seems that the best-documented
clinical application of BNP measurement currently,
is for the emergency diagnosis of HF in patients
presenting with acute dyspnea.
There may be a trend, however, towards increased
use of BNP in the outpatient setting as shown recently
by data from the Clinical Chemistry Department of a
San Diego VA Hospital. While initially most samples
had been sent from the emergency department, the
proportion coming from outpatient departments had
increased from 8% in 2001 to 47% in 2003 (26).
While this propably reflects the potential value
of BNP-guided clinical strategies this value has not
yet been validated extensively in long-term clinical
studies that demonstrate the benefit of this type of
approach.
