The first Nordic course in specialist training
Nete Hornung
A common Nordic course in
specialist training in clinical
biochemistry will take place in
Copenhagen 2015 from September
1
st
to September 3
rd
!
The board of NFKK decided
in 2011 to support and chair the
establishment of a common Nordic
course as a strategic field of action. Representatives
from the four countries Finland, Norway, Sweden and
Denmark were appointed to participate in organizing
the course and to ensure that it will fulfill national
requirements for specialist training courses. The four
representatives are Kristina Hotakainen (F), Kristin
Lilleholt (N), Mattias Aldrimer (S), Holger Jon Møl-
ler (D), and Nete Hornung representing NFKK in the
process. The group has met twice and discussed the
contents of the course and the frame and structure
have now been settled. The preliminary title of the
course is:
The professionel role of a clinical biochemist/labo-
ratory doctor - Good examples of roles in clinical
biochemistry
The four participants each have their responsibility
for organizing part of the professionel contents of the
course. The major headlines are:
• Communication (dialogue, presentational skills,
leadership, management and...)
• Molecular biology (the methodology - today and
in the future, deep sequensing and...)
• Hematology (leukemia research, flowcytometry
and...)
• Quality assurance (statistics, goldmining, epide-
miology and...)
The intention is to engage the best lecturers from each
country in each field. The lecturers will all be asked
first to introduce themselves and to explain how and
why they ended up in clinical biochemistry and in
their specific professional field.
Hopefully, the course will provide the participants
with an understanding of how a professionel role may
be achieved and the significance of role models in
clinical biochemistry/laboratory medicine. A more
detailed programme will be presented in the begin-
ning of 2015 but save the dates if you are in specialist
training in clinical biochemistry!
