We met some Norwegian colleagues right at the
booth for the 37
th
NFKK congress in Trondheim
2020. Ketil Thorstensen, Gunhild Garmo Hov and
Gustav Mikkelsen from St. Olavs University Hos-
pital of Trondheim. “We heard about this congress
at least four years ago and we have two reasons for
being here. First, we are here because we want to
observe how to organize a congress like this, and
the second reason is because some of the lectures
are of great interest”, said Ketil. Gunhild agreed:
“We want to pick up some good ideas for our con-
gress in Trondheim in two years.”
All three of them enjoyed the congress very
much. They met some new people who they
wanted to contact later to get some more infor-
mation and have some discussions with. To meet
people is one of the most useful parts of attending
congresses according to Ketil. He was also pleased
with the exhibition and had found exhibitors he
wanted to talk to and get the latest news. One of
the most interesting lectures was the first plenary
session with Graham Beastall on “Future of the
Laboratory Medicine “. Also, the plenary session
on bioinformatics on Thursday and the session on
genetics and epigenetics had been good as well.
There is always something for everyone when the
program has a good variety.
With this picture they want to wish all the read-
ers warmly welcome to the next NFKK congress
in Trondheim. Please, reserve the dates 9-12 June
2020 for this occasion!
Iceland
On Thursday afternoon we
met Isleifur Olafsson from
Iceland after his interesting
speech about patient care
and the value of laboratory
medicine in non-urban areas
of Iceland. Isleifur works as
medical director at Landspitali University Hospital,
Dept. Clinical Biochemistry, Reykjavik, Iceland.
According to his opinion the congress program
was very good and he was very pleased with the
arrangements. He has been part of the organizing
committee of two or three of the Nordic conferences
in the past and he has visited at least seven Nordic
congresses. This year he was the only delegate from
Iceland. During this congress Isleifur had met some
old friends and also the board members of NFKK.
He enjoys visiting Helsinki very much, and he has
been here a couple of times before.
