Klinisk Biokemi i Norden
I like four seasons. We had the most beautiful, warm
summer here in the North as well in the whole
Scandinavia. I also like that the seasons change over
night. After summer we have fall, and after fall it is
winter time. We have had unusually warm September
and October till last week, when we had freezing
temperatures on a few mornings. And this Sunday
morning we woke up seeing that
it had snowed over night. So we
have winter now, over night as I
wanted!
I started this column “IFCC
News” in the previous issue of
KBN, telling about the organiza-
tion of the IFCC. Now I am going
to discuss the role of the National
Representative and Council meet-
ings. National Representative has the most important
role as a link between the National Society and the
IFCC. National Representative gets all the infor-
mation from the IFCC. It is the responsibility of
the National Representative to inform the National
Society and see that the National Society responds
to requests for nominations of awardees, Division,
Committee and Working Group members, partici-
pates in votings and attends the Council meetings.
IFCC Executive Board has sent in September a letter
to all National Societies and National Representatives
reminding them of the important role of the National
Representatives. The IFCC Procedure Manual states:
The responsibilities of the National Representatives
are as follows:
1.4.1 To submit to the IFCC Office a full and up-
to-date address for official correspondence (to
include: mailing address, telephone, fax, and
e-mail).
1.4.2 To submit to the IFCC Office a list of the offi-
cers of their Society, and their full addresses,
and to immediately notify the IFCC Office of
any change in the officers of the Society.
1.4.3 To receive from the IFCC Office all official
correspondence, and to be responsible for cir-
culating these documents to the officers and
members of their Society as appropriate.
1.4.4 To reply, on behalf of their Society and within
the allotted time, to all requests sent to the
Society by IFCC Functional Units, and to all
mail ballots sent by the IFCC Office.
1.4.5 To propose, on behalf of their Society, names
of appropriate individuals for membership, or
Corresponding Membership, in IFCC Divisions,
Committees and Working Groups.
1.4.6 To propose, on behalf of their Society, candida-
tes for election to the IFCC Executive Board.
1.4.7 To attend the triennial IFCC Council meeting,
or to nominate an alternative representative
according to the prescribed procedure, and to
vote on the issues raised before it.
Council meetings take place in every three years
in connection with the International Congresses
of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine.
The previous Council meeting was in Orlando in
July 2005, and the next one will be in Fortaleza,
Brazil, in 2008. Every National Society has a right
to send its National Representative or another aut-
horized person to attend the Council meeting. IFCC
Procedure Manual states of the Council meeting as
follows:
The IFCC Council will meet on a triennial basis,
coinciding with the IFCC International Congress.
During this meeting the Council will carry out the
following activities:
1.5.1 Hear the report of the IFCC President on the
achievements of the IFCC since the previous
Council meeting, and its plans for the future.
