Nytt från NFKK

I framtiden bör vi inte vara
begränsade av fackliga och
geografiska hinder.
Organisationskommittén för
Nordiska Kongressen 2008 har
i början av år 2007 närmat
sig alla Nordiska föreningar
för klinisk kemi för att samla
förslag till intressanta sympo-
sierubriker. När detta nummer
av KBN distribueras på våren har den vetenskapliga
arbetsgruppen förhoppningsvis sållat de bästa och
mest lämpliga programmen till en balanserad och
spännande helhet. Nordiskt samarbete behövs också
i förverkligande av programmet och utställningen.
What kind of development is taking place in
laboratory life and what might we expect to see in
year 2008 in Helsinki? In the following I make a
personal estimate on some possible trends.
In vitro diagnostic products industry has chan-
ged many rules of our game with their innovations
and more seems to come. After analytical automa-
tion we got total laboratory automation and have
recently began with point-of-care connectivity. New
multi-disciplinary analytical platforms and softwa-
re solutions to manage laboratory workflows will
probably also be seen in the Helsinki Fair Centre.
The recent reorganisations which have brought
industrial giants like Siemens, General Electric and
Procter & Gamble to different segments of the IVD
market may later lead to even more groundbreaking
changes in the longer term.
The Omics (genomics, proteinomics, glycomics,
metabolomics...) revolution continues and we may
see some of the focus moving back to proteins and
sugar structures etc from the nucleic acids and
simultaneously from research to clinical laborato-
ries. Financial institutions realised at the verge of
year 2000 that they desperately need the dusty old
Cobol programmers to update their legacy systems
for the new Millennium and this story might soon
can be adapted to experts of analytical chemistry of
proteins, lipids etc.
Clinical interaction in terms of planning effective
personalised therapies is a duty for tomorrow´s
laboratories

. Making our educational forums mee-
ting places for clinicians and laboratories is a
challenge but we need to take it. Most of the time,
implementation of new diagnostics is driven by
innovations in patient care.
Unified Europe, invigorated Baltic states and
strengthening Russia directly or indirectly affect
the laboratories in Northern Europe. We may have
different opinions on international networks when
it comes to transporting patient samples and data
but professional networks to facilitate increasing
knowledge base are necessary to everyone. The aim
of NFKK should be approaching the interfaces of
our traditional geographical area without losing the
Nordic focus.
Vi hoppas att en ny organisation inom Europeisk
laboratoriemedicin, ECCLM, föds i Amsterdam år
2007. Omröstning om praktiska arrangemang har
pågått under våren och när Europeiska kolleger
strålar samman i juni kan vi förhoppningsvis börja
med en ny och starkare bas för samarbete.
NFKK har sitt ordinarie styrelsemöte i Stockholm
i mitten av April år 2007. Gällande aktuella aktivi-
teter har annonsen till en ny kurs i klinisk kommu-
nikation nyligen distribuerats och fler nya projekt
bedöms under kommande styrelsemöte. Samtidigt
kan vi konstatera att vi fortfarande har lite resurser
kvar i Nordfond för att stöda Nordiskt vetenskapligt
samarbete. Organisationen vid NFKK är väldigt liten
och lätt men vårt nätverk omfattar ett allt större
område i Norra Europa. Vår struktur som baserar sig
mera på sociala, historiska och idealistiska faktorer
än på regler är ett betydelsefullt och balanserande
exempel i ett allt mera juridikdominerade interna-
tionellt samarbete.
