ans, biomedical scientists and clinical chemists. Two
seminars will therefore illustrate good examples of
ways to organize clinical laboratories and novel ways
to interact along the chain of events, from analysis to
medical decisions. Education that will be an integral
part of this development will be discussed in a seminar
on the last day.
As the grand finale of the third day, the members of
the organizing committee have planned a spectacular
gala dinner on the theme of “Glitter &Glamour” at one
of the nicer restaurants located close to the congress
hall. Be there or be square!
We have saved some of the highlights to the last
day. Professor Ulf Gyllensten, Director of the National
Genomics Infrastructure, Uppsala, and an internatio-
nal expert in the field of molecular genomics, will give
us his view of how new DNA-based technology will
change the medical profession. Professor Per Venge,
Uppsala, will host a seminar on inflammation and
the interesting prospect of tissue-specific inflamma-
tion markers. If you think that you understand the
basis of cancer development, think again. Professor
Ingemar Ernberg, Stockholm, will in layman’s terms
explain howmathematical strange attractors now offer
an explanation of how cancers can be so stable and
untreatable. We will also learn about novel biomarkers
that allow for the diagnosis and treatment control of
our most common cancers.
As usual, the program will include seminars rela-
ted to the Astrup and Eldjarn Prizes. Posters will be
on display close to the seminar rooms in the congress
hall throughout the meeting. The best posters will be
highlighted in abstract presentations and guided poster
walks. To further inspire the submission of posters, the
Scientific Committee will award generous poster prizes
in categories published on the abstract submission page
(
).
The meeting will also feature company-sponsored
lunch seminars and breakfast seminars. A newsletter,
covering the meeting highlights and interviews with
participants and speakers, will be published daily in
your smartphone.
Göteborg, Sweden’s second largest city, is located
on the west coast, and in the early fall, the weather is
usually excellent. The short distance to the sea results
in healthy, top quality fresh fish and seafood and the
possibility to experience both river ferries to view the
city from the water and the nearby archipelago just
off the coast. For more information on Göteborg, the
official visitor’s guide provides good guidance
.
Information on the congress will continuously be
posted on the website
as it develops.
Here, you also can see photos of the scientific commit-
tee, deadlines for abstract submissions and registration
as well as a backward-running clock, showing the time
left to the meeting. In addition I will post updated
newsletters on how the arrangements proceed.
